Hello, I’m Dr. Dong-woo Shin.
Recently, we’ve seen a remarkable surge in patients traveling from the US, China, Japan, and beyond specifically for a “Mini Facelift.” For those looking for a visible lifting effect within a tight travel window, the mini facelift has become an incredibly satisfying option.
As an international patient, you likely have these concerns:
- “I can’t stay for 10 days—will my results still be okay?”
- “I heard recovery is faster than a full facelift. Is that true?”
When you’re utilizing a short vacation for surgery, worrying about recovery time and your itinerary is only natural. While a standard full facelift typically requires 10 to 14 days, a Mini Facelift offers a quicker turnaround, making it an ideal choice for those with demanding schedules.
However, don’t let the word “Mini” fool you. This is still a surgical procedure that requires careful judgment and thorough consultation. Today, I’ll guide you through the key features, recommended travel timelines, and essential post-op care for a successful Mini Facelift in Korea.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Mini Facelift?
A Mini Facelift involves a smaller incision than a traditional facelift. Some worry the results might be “mini” as well, but that’s far from the truth. It is a highly effective way to redefine a sagging jawline and restore facial contours.
This procedure is particularly well-suited for:
- Ages 30–50 with Early Signs of Sagging: It yields the best results for those in the early to middle stages of aging. If your jawline is starting to blur but hasn’t “collapsed” yet, a mini lift can work wonders.
- Those Unable to Stay Long-Term: A full lift requires about 11 days for complete suture removal. In contrast, because the incisions are smaller, sutures from a mini lift can often be removed in as little as 7 days.
- Patients Needing a Quick Return to Daily Life: Bruising and swelling subside much faster, making it perfect for professionals who need to get back to work quickly.
- Focus on the Mid-Face and Jawline: The incision is centered around the front of the ear, effectively lifting the area under the cheekbones (smile lines) and the jawline for a sharper, more defined look.
Note: If sagging is severe or involves the neck area, a full facelift might be more appropriate. I recommend an email or video consultation before you fly to Korea so we can plan your surgical method and recovery timeline in advance.
The Recommended Itinerary & Recovery Guide
For international patients, every hour counts. Here is how to structure an efficient 7-day trip for a Mini Facelift.
Day -1: Arrival & Final Consultation
Even if we’ve consulted online, an in-person meeting is vital. We finalize the surgical plan based on physical exams. Since you’ve just endured a long flight, use this day to rest and hydrate.
Day 0: Surgery Day
The procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia and typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Afterward, you’ll move to our aesthetic recovery suite for immediate soothing care, including cooling masks to minimize initial swelling.
Day 1: The First Check-up
This is a crucial milestone. We check the incision sites, adjust your compression bandages, and provide you with a multi-language recovery kit including medication instructions.
Days 2–3: Managing the Peak Swelling
Swelling usually peaks during this window. We provide professional treatments like Microcurrent Therapy or Lymphatic Drainage to accelerate healing. We also teach you “hotel-room hacks”—sleeping positions and dietary tips to help you depuff faster.
Days 4–5: Scar Care & Skin Regeneration
As swelling goes down, we shift focus to the skin. We use hydrating masks and serums to boost regeneration and recommend home-care products you can continue using once you return home.
Days 6–7: Suture Removal & Final Inspection
Depending on your healing speed, sutures can often be removed on Day 7. If you must leave earlier, we provide detailed instructions and documentation so a local doctor in your home country can safely remove the remaining stitches.
Heading Home: Post-Travel Maintenance
Recovery continues after you land. Avoid heavy activity, keep the area dry, and consistently apply the prescribed ointments. Most importantly, stay out of the sun. UV rays can darken scars, so use sunscreen and wear a hat when going outside.
FAQ
A: While 7 days is ideal for suture removal, many patients fly after 5 days if they have a local clinic to handle the stitches. However, Day 7 is the “sweet spot” for a final check by your surgeon.
A: The incision is hidden along the natural crease in front of the ear. With our 10-day scar management protocol, it typically becomes nearly invisible within a few months.
